Timeline Coming to Fan Pages February 29

January 28th, 2012

COULD IT BE?

It could become an exciting date for brands and businesses if the latest Facebook rumors are true!

Timeline.pngBusiness Insider is reporting that Facebook is in the process of launching Timeline for Brand pages and that an official announcement will be made on February 29th, when Facebook holds its invitation only Facebook Marketers Council.

With the company making all users switch over to the new timeline format, the next potential step is to allow brand pages access to the same features. Considering the story-line style look of Timeline, companies will have different opportunities for engaging with their audience if the new format comes.

One source told Business Insider that, "Facebook pushed back the launch of Timeline for brands to the end of February....Those two pieces of information [the council and the pushing back of Timeline for brands] are too much of a coincidence."

The obvious big new feature of Facebook'sTimeline is the cover photo, but factors like the left-right presentation of posts and status updates, the chronological element of Timeline and the ability to find past moments or posts and highlight them on your wall, will certainly feature in the strategy of all social media marketers.

TabSite is staying tuned on any and all news in the Facebook developer areas and connections within Facebook to see what options there will be and how TabSite can be ready to assist our community with tools to work with Timeline.

Watch our fan page for updates and the latest information on these pending Facebook Timeline rumors.  We'll also be addressing what we know and the latest Timeline updates in our February 16 TabSite Webinar.

Mobile Friendly Facebook Tabs with TabSite

January 5th, 2012

Did you know? One of the unique features of TabSite is Mobile Friendly Tabs!

As you have likely experienced, the Facebook mobile site and mobile apps for Android and iPhone do not offer a simple ability to access custom tabs on a fan page.  Facebook limits you in the mobile version to the Wall, Info, Photos, and Activity.  For most apps this means your custom tabs are hidden from viewers accessing the tab on their mobile device.

However, with TabSite this doesn't have to be the case!

When you use the TabSite "Save & Post to Wall" feature, this will post an update to your fan page wall and it will link back to the TabSite custom tab you are posting from.

It is programmed so that if the link in the wall post is clicked, TabSite checks to see if it is a mobile browser, and, if so, we deliver a mobile friendly version of the content to the user. (see image)

This powerful feature sets TabSite apart from many fan page platforms and gives TabSite users ability to post updates to their wall about their fan page tabs that can be viewed by mobile users.  With mobile use of Facebook continuing to grow and averaging over 40% of normal daily use, this unique TabSite feature of "Post to Wall" enables you to easily reach more fans and give them access to your custom tab creations!

So, the answer is, "YES!" TabSite gives you a way to reach Facebook mobile users!

Here's the setup process to post to your fan page from the TabSite Manager.

1. From the tab you want to link to, click 'Save & Post" from the Dropdown.

save-and-publish.png

2. Use the pop-up box to customize your Facebook Fan Page Wall post:

save-post-to-wall.png

You'll get a confirmation message that the post was published to your wall.  Below is the mobile view from an iPhone of the Facebook wall post and then the custom tab view aftering clicking the link.  The image and "Widget Videos" are linked to the custom TabSite tab.

Here's the custom TabSite tab fully viewable in the iPhone Facebook app.

So go ahead, give mobile users access to your custom tabs by using the "Save & Post" feature!

EASY.  POWERFUL.  SOCIAL.  TABSITE.

Facebook to end FBML App Support January 1 - Time to Move to TabSite

December 30th, 2011

Since March 2011, page admins have not been able to create any new FBML apps, but FBML apps which were already in existence remained functional.

Facebook announced at it's most recent f8 Developer Conference in September, 2011, that:

1. FBML will no longer be supported by Facebook beginning January 1, 2012. (This means no support and no bug fixes)

2. The final official end date when all FBML tabs will cease to work and will be removed from Facebook is set for June 1, 2012.

The time has come for those last holdouts to fully transition to iFrames and depart from the FBML coding completely, and TabSite is an ideal alternative!

History and Information for Fan Page Admins

 1. What is FBML and why do I care?

The answer is that, you don't need to care, unless you already were using FBML on your Facebook Pages.  If you fall in the group that doesn't need to know because you don't have any FBML tabs on your fan page, then feel free to skip down to number 2!

FBML
FBML is Facebook’s original framework for serving custom content on fan page tabs. This content is served by Facebook, which, in short, means the user’s browser never hits the app developer’s server directly.  Instead, Facebook requests the content from the app developer’s server, parses and filters it, and sends it to the browser for display.  The result is content served by Facebook on custom tabs.

fbml-2.png

Static FBML App
The Static FBML app was an application provided by Facebook that enabled the creation of FBML based Facebook page tabs. To use the application, page admins simply added the app to their page, and then customize the content by coding using FBML code techniques.

Along with FBML, the Static FBML app will no longer be supported (no help) starting January 1, 2012, and will NO LONGER WORK on pages beginning June 1, 2012.

 2. What is Facebook's preferred method for adding custom tabs to Fan Pages?

iFrame Apps
iFrame Apps are Facebook’s accepted framework for serving content on fan page tabs. Content is served directly by the developer’s server, rather than being proxied by Facebook’s servers. Because the page is hosted externally of Facebook, it can render HTML, CSS and even Javascript just like any external web page does, which was not the same with FBML. iFrame Apps were launched in March of 2011 and are a big improvement.

All TabSite fan page tabs use iFrame Apps.

 3. I'm not a coder and yet I want a nice, custom fan page.  What should I do?

TabSite_Blue_icon.jpgTabSite is a great solution for small and medium sized businesses wanting to easily customize their fan page without learning to do any coding.  With a easy to use drag-n-build system, TabSite is easy to navigate and has a full suite of widgets and tools including ability to:

  • Add Videos,
  • Add/Edit Content using a WYSIWYG editor,
  • Create Photo SlideShows
  • Add Facebook Social Plugins
  • Embed E-mail Sign-up forms
  • Add your Blog and Twitter feeds
  • Create a fan-gating mechanism with our Like-Gate tool
  • and more!

  4. Don't wait!  January 1 FBML is no longer Supported.  June 1, 2012, FBML ceases to work.  Now is the time to changeover to a solution like TabSite.

TabSite Launches Facebook Subscribe Button for Fan Pages

December 12th, 2011

Facebook-Subscribe-Button.jpgJust last week Facebook launched a Subscribe button for websites. It's similar to Twitter's Follow button, except for Facebook profiles.  With 1 click you can subscribe to the person's Facebook public status updates.

TabSite was able to move quickly and create this functionality for TabSite users to add to their fan pages via our Facebook widget!  It's a great tool to extend personal branding, making it easy for speakers, realtors, and more to gain subscribers that can then get their profile status updates.

The Subscribe button for fan page tabs works just like the Subscribe button on a Facebook profile; once clicked, the subscriber will begin seeing the public posts of the person they have subscribed to in his or her News Feed, alongside updates from their friends and the Pages they have Liked. Similar to the Like button, the Facebook Subscribe button can be easily added in TabSite.

fbwidget.png

TabSite has added the Subscribe feature to our Facebook Widget available at the Gold Plan level for Facebook fan pages.  Simply drag the Facebook Widget (shown left) to your TabSite tab work area.  Next click on the "Subscribe" tab (as shown below).

subscribe2widget.jpg

Simply add the full profile url such as http://facebook.com/maris, choose a Subscribe button layout style with the count to the right (button_count) or count above (box_count) width, and you are ready to go!  TabSite also allows you to adjust some other variables as shown for your Subscribe button.

On the TabSite tab on your fan page, the feature will appear like below for those who have not subscribed and see the lower image for a view of the button for those who have subscribed.

History of Facebook Subscribe:

It was three months ago that Facebook announced Subscriptions, an optional feature that lets you control what types of stories you get from your friends and non-friends in your News Feed. Subscriptions are meant to help you keep up to date with people you're not friends with.

In other words, these are one-way friendships, allowing you to subscribe to a public figure, celebrity, politician, journalist, or anyone else who wants to post public updates via their Facebook profile. It benefits both parties: the subscriber (could be you), who wants to use Facebook to receive a person's updates, as well as the public figure (also could be you), who wants to share with their audience on Facebook.  Subscribe is particularly helpful for figures who want to extend their company brand via their Facebook profile posts, and it's also useful for brands as a "brand extension" where you can hear more from the brand via their CEO or other key persons whom you "subscribe" to.

This new Subscribe feature in the Facebook widget will let you subscribe to a person's content via the Subscribe button on a fan page tab. Similar to subscribing to a news website, blog, and so on, those subscribed have the opportunity to get shares from you in their News Feed and Ticker.

With the launch of the Subscribe button, you no longer have to decide who should be friended and have access to your profile posts. Instead, it allows one to be “followed” by others in the same model that  Google+ and Twitter both have. All you have to do (as anyone can do) is enable Subscriptions as part of your Facebook profile account.

TabSite is pleased to be one of the first to release the Subscribe button as an option to add to fan pages.  Perfect for realtors and other brand ambassadors, the Subscribe button is available now to all TabSite Gold Plan users.  View it live on Mari Smith's tab.

With Multiple Admins Standard - TabSite Makes it Easy to Collaborate

November 15th, 2011

collaborate.jpg

From the beginning, starting with our Free Plan level, TabSite allows you to add other Admins to your TabSite accounts per fan page for ease of collaboration.

This means you can assign one team member to have access to edit the TabSite custom tabs for fan page "A",  and another can be assigned to have access to the TabSite tabs for fan page "B", etc.  Are you a designer doing work for a client?  No problem.  You can create the account and assign them Admin access, or vice versa.

QUICK GUIDE:

1. Make sure that the person you are adding is an Admin of the Fan Page on Facebook. (They need to be in order for them to Add new Tabs.)

2. Then login into the TabSite Manager and click on 'Account Information' in the left navigation bar.

3. From the options on this page, choose Administrator Manager.

manager2.png

Enter the email address of the person you want to make an admin of your Facebook Fan Page, then choose Standard Admin or Master Admin from the drop down box. The admins you add will show up at the bottom of your Administrator Admin tab.

admin-man-520.png

The difference between a Stand Admin and a Master Admin is that a Standard Admin can only edit content and add Sub-pages to existing tabs. A Master Admin can add new tabs to the fan page, add Sub-pages and edit content.  (The Master must also be set as a Page Admin via the Facebook Page Admin as well.)

As Facebook Fan Pages become even more critical assets for businesses to engage with their audiences, TabSite will continue the development of new tools and capabilities allowing TabSite users to have a simple way to expand their Facebook Fan Page.

See TabSite plans and features here: Account Levels.

Facebook will remove Static FBML Tabs in 2012.  Change to TabSite now!
